A True Craftsman

A True CraftsmanUpon entering the house under the curved “Taiko” beam that Bob felled, cut and shaped from the property, you know that you are entering the home of no ordinary owner/builder. From the vast open timber-frame to the hand forged light fixtures, every detail of this house is well thought out and lovingly executed.

There are almost no walls on the upper two floors – creating lots of opportunities for projects and entertaining. A large masonry heater/wood-fired bake oven complex both anchors the space and provides a cozy inglenook. The kitchen is warm and intimate yet up to the demands of its epicurean owners with professional fixtures and gourmet details. The radiant floor provides a comfortable warmth under foot.

Sometimes a monkey wrench is the perfect tool for a job. Just prior to permit submission one of the owners, who is a former bank executive, realized that our numbers weren’t adding up. We ended up making some significant design changes that actually improved the project by removing unneeded square footage and simplifying the concept.
